Joelle Jones – Principal

(Tap, Lyrical, Street, Hip Hop and Contemporary)

Joelle Jones

Joelle’s first ballet lesson was at four years old. By the age of eight Joelle was also enjoying tap, modern, lyrical, acrobats and singing and had already taken first place in several major BTDA (British Theatre Dance Association) competitions and championships.

By twelve years old she had been the tap, song and dance and character champion of several Counties and is a former U. K Tap champion. Joelle gained her dance-teaching certificate when she was thirteen and has continued to teach since then.

In her early teens Joelle began street dancing and found yet another style where she could develop her creativity. Whilst at college studying Performing Arts; specialising in dance, Joelle began to develop her knowledge in contemporary dance, stage management and directing and was able to utilise her advanced skills in choreography for college productions.

Joelle continued to study dance at a dance college specialising in professional teacher training.

Having launched Turbelle’s with just 12 students and three dance subjects, Joelle now teaches and choreographs full time and has developed her school to just under 150 students aged 3 to 50 years old, teaching tap, ballet, jazz, lyrical, street-hip hop, bhangra and bollywood dance as well as singing and drama. She employs ten part-time tutors and has three trainee tutors for her ever growing workload.

To date Joelle has been the writer, producer, director and head choreographer of five major productions.

With dance becoming a more and more popular pass time activity, Joelle and her team have spent the last eight years teaching dance and drama in schools and colleges as an alternative in physical education and after school workshops. To date 2500 children in the London Boroughs of Redbridge, Newham, Havering, Barking & Dagenham, Waltham Forest and Kensington & Chelsea have participated.

Registered with the ISTD (Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing), she prepares her students for exams, professional careers, competitions, festivals and stage performances.

Joelle’s ethos is for her students to gain confidence, develop, have fun, structure and be disciplined in a family atmosphere and a world of diversity and wonder.

An extremely creative choreographer, Joelle’s enthusiasm and energy are contagious to Turbelle’s tutors and students.

Vevica Jones – Founder

(Drama)

Vevica Jones

Teaming up with her daughter Joelle, Vevica, known as Viv assisted her in setting up what was initially a two hour Saturday Job in a church hall. Watching Joelle grow Turbelle’s to a full time business and being involved in some very exciting events has been a wonderful for Viv.

Viv’s role within Turbelle’s is extremely varied from looking after reception to the writing of productions, assisting Joelle in the design of costumes and making them.

Having dealt with adults as a Recruitment Manager in excess of 30 years, Viv has found her involvement with the students of Turbelle’s and performing arts, ‘the place to be’.

‘Being Joelle’s mum and a grandmother comes first, but Turbelle’s and the students are very important to both Joelle and Viv and an extension to their family’.

Whilst Turbelle’s has been and still is fast growing, Viv’s role within Turbelle’s has been part of the reason for the continued structure, discipline and family atmosphere that has made Turbelle’s unique.
