Joelle Jones
Turbelle’s Principal/Managing Choreographer
Teacher of Tap, Street, Lyrical, Contemporary & Open 2 Style ‘ Turbelle’s Performing Arts school, is a family; where students develop in a fun, disciplined and structured environment’
Joelle started Turbelle’s Performing Arts school on 17th May 2003 with just 12 students as a means of earning on Saturdays.
She now teaches and choreographs full time and owns a school with just under 150 students aged 3 to 50 years old, teaching tap, ballet, jazz, lyrical, street, bhangra, bollywood dance, singing and drama and employs seven part-time tutors and has seven trainee tutors for her ever growing workload.
With dance becoming a more and more popular pass time activity for both girls and boys in youth centres, primary, secondary and special needs education, Joelle and her team have spent the last seven years teaching dance and drama as an alternative in physical education and out of school workshops to over 2500 children in the London Boroughs of Redbridge, Newham, Barking & Dagenham, Waltham Forest and Kensington & Chelsea.
Joelle’s first ballet lesson was at four years old. By the age of eight Joelle was also enjoying tap, modern, lyrical, acrobats and singing and had already taken first place in several major BTDA (British Theatre Dance Association) competitions. By twelve years old she had been the tap, song and dance and character champion of several Counties and is a former U. K Tap champion.
She gained her student dance-teaching certificate when she was thirteen and has continued to teach since then.
In her early teens Joelle began to street dance and found yet another style where she could develop her creativity.
Whilst at college studying Performing Arts; specialising in dance, she utilised her advanced skills in choreography for college productions, whilst learning contemporary dance, stage management and directing.
Registered with the ISTD (Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing), she prepares her students for exams, competitions, festivals and stage performances
Her ethos is for her students to have fun, structure, development and discipline in a world of diversity and wonder.
Joelle’s creative choreography and energy is contagious to Turbelle’s tutors and students.
Vevica Jones
FOUNDER/COORDINATOR
Teaming up with her daughter Joelle, Vevica, known as Viv assisted her in setting up what was initially a two hour Saturday Job in a church hall. After just two years, Turbelle’s became a full time business.
Having dealt with adults as a Recruitment Manager in excess of 30 years, Viv has found her love for Turbelle’s and performing arts, ‘the place to be’.
‘Being Joelle’s mum and a grandmother comes first, but Turbelle’s and the students are very important to both of us’.
Whilst Turbelle’s has been and still is fast growing, it is important to Viv that there is always that structure, disciplined, family atmosphere that has made Turbelle’s unique.
