Joelle

Turbelle’s Principal/Managing Choreographer
Teacher of Tap, Street, Lyrical, Contemporary & Open 2 Style ‘ Turbelle’s Performing Arts school, is a family; where students develop in a fun, disciplined and structured environment’

Joelle started Turbelle’s Performing Arts school on 17th May 2003 with just 12 students as a means of earning on Saturdays.

She now teaches and choreographs full time and owns two schools with just under 200 students aged 3 to 48 years old, teaching tap, ballet, jazz, lyrical, street, bhangra, bollywood dance, singing and drama and employs twelve part-time tutors for her ever growing workload.

With dance becoming a more and more popular pass time activity for both girls and boys in youth centres, primary, secondary and special needs education, Joelle and her team have spent the year teaching dance and drama as an alternative in physical education and out of school workshops to over 1,000 children in the London Boroughs of Redbridge, Newham, Barking & Dagenham, Waltham Forest and Kensington & Chelsea.

Joelle’s first ballet lesson was at four years old. By the age of eight Joelle was also enjoying tap, modern, lyrical, acrobats and singing and had already taken first place in several major BTDA (British Theatre Dance Association) competitions. By twelve years old she had been the tap, song and dance and character champion of several counties and is a former U. K tap champion.

She gained her student dance-teaching certificate when she was thirteen and has continued to teach since then.

In her early teens Joelle began to street dance and found yet another style where she could develop her creativity.

Whilst at college studying Performing Arts; specialising in dance, she utilised her advanced skills in choreography for college productions, whilst learning contemporary dance, stage management and directing.

Registered with the ISTD (Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing), she prepares her students for exams, festivals and stage performances

Vevica Elcock

Viv

FOUNDER/COORDINATOR
Teaming up with her daughter Joelle, Vevica, known as Viv assisted her in setting up what was initially a two hour Saturday Job in a church hall. Two years on Turbelle’s is now a full time business.

Having spent over twenty years as a City Recruitment Consultant, Viv was able to juggle her many chores from registering students to making costumes and planning Turbelle’s production where an audience of over a thousand people attended Turbelle’s spectacular event at the Walthamstow Assembly Hall.

‘Being Joelle’s mum comes first, but Turbelle’s and the students are very important to both of us’.

Whilst Turbelle’s has been and still is fast growing, it is important to Viv that there is always that structure, disciplined, family atmosphere that has made Turbelle’s unique.

LINDSAY – Tap/Ballet/Jazz/Lyrical
Turbelle’s all important Jazz, Ballet and Beginners Tap Teacher. Lindsay’s history with Joelle goes back to primary school and then the same dance school and finally Turbelle’s.
An exceptionally talented young lady, Lindsay trained with the BTDA where she gain several championships including U.K. She has performed on many stages professionally and can be seen on many music videos.

JANICE - Drama
Having run her own theatre company, Janice’s abundance of talent and experience is more than needed with the many projects involving Turbelle’s. She is an energetic tutor who appreciates modern and classical drama. Working as a Community Development Officer full time is just an added bonus when looking after the welfare of the many young people in Turbelle’s.

JUDIE – Singing
We all need that very enthusiastic and talented singing teacher who can tackle your vocals, as well as any kind of music from Theatrical to RNB. It’s even nicer when you realise your singing teacher can song write, sing and dance be it Tap, Jazz or Street.

JULIE – Bollywood & Bhangra
The divierties of cultures within Turbelle’s have kept Julie quite busy whilst preparing Turbelle’s students for festivals and shows. Her choreography is original with its many classical styles to compliment her bollywood and bhangra.

STEPHEN - Street
Meeting Joelle on stage at Sadlers Wells as performers, no one was to know years later Stephen would have the hard and serious task of teaching Turbelle’s juniors, inters and seniors street dance as well as Turbelle’s educational workshops. A talented young man, Stephens combat and field knowledge is often shown in his choreography.

KOFI - Street
A very talented person, who many would have seen on TV as an actor and dancer. Kofi is a hard task master at Turbelle’s teaching their elite group some very serious routines. He is able to juggle completing his degree whilst tutoring in some of Turbelle’s educational workshops.
